What Role Does Action Play in the Law of Attraction?
There are some who say that the Law of Attraction teachings sell folks on the idea that one can just sit around and think about stuff, do some visualizations, and poof, a million dollars, a great relationship, a yacht, or whatever they want, appears.
In other words, these people claim the LOA is snake oil, a sham, magical thinking—but hey, those of us who believe in this stuff know this isn’t true. We’ve seen miracles abound in our lives. We’ve noticed that what we focus on is what we experience. We’ve witnessed genuinely amazing manifestations.
But for those who aren’t convinced, this question arises: Can you manifest stuff without effort? Does anything ever require action?
And here’s the thing, I don’t think any LOA teacher worth their salt is going to tell you that you never have to lift a finger again—the real point of the LOA is that what you believe is possible, is possible.
So, yep, in that sense, manifesting a million dollars without ever getting off your couch is possible—if, and only if, you believe it is. But do you?
Think about it this way: Say you are someone who wants that million dollars. And let’s, for the sake of argument say that, you don’t stand to inherit a zillion bucks any time soon, you don’t have a big fat trust fund, you don’t own free-and-clear a giant house in San Diego that you purchased for a song in 1980, or anything else of that nature.
You are just a “Regular Joe” (or Josephine), who doesn’t currently have a million dollars, and no foreseeable prospect for getting the dough.
So, think about it my dear Regular Joe (or Josephine), how easy is it to believe that the money is going come to you while you’re busy lounging in the recliner munching potato chips?
Can you really believe it is possible? Can you feel it?
Probably not.
(By the way, I’m making no judgements here, if you can make recliner and potato chips into a million bucks, I’m all for it. But, please do share your story!)
BUT, what about this—how about, oh say, a business idea? How far fetched is it to believe that you could get involved in a wonderful business. One that would eventually flow that million bucks into your bank account? That feels more possible, right?
Now, what the LOA can help you with is finding that business opportunity. And, the LOA can also help you find a business that is meaningful to you, something that you greatly enjoy. Something that is fun to do.
Oh sure, it may even be a stretch to believe that there would be a business opportunity that you enjoyed and that would net you that kind of money. But, it’s a lot more believable than the money appearing out of thin air, don’t you think?
And the point is, if you believe it is possible, then it is possible. And, when you want something, no matter what it is, if you believe it is possible, the LOA will provide you with the guidance that will lead you to inspired action (in this case the business idea) that will propel you easily, enjoyable towards your goals.
And, take it one step back, the LOA can even manifest for you, situations, teachers, etc., that will help you get to the place where you can believe that the business idea (or whatever) is possible.
And yes, “miracles” do happen. People do win the lottery occasionally. But, more often, they find a satisfying and productive way to earn the money. (Again, no judgements here, either way is fine with me, and I think fine with the Universe too.)
If you want any thing, and you wouldn’t exist if you didn’t, pay attention to your beliefs in relation to that thing. When you get to a place where you believe that having the thing is possible more than you believe it is not possible, all sorts of circumstances, mentors, etc. will flow effortlessly to you. And you’ll be guided to take whatever inspired action is necessary.

I put on my dream board earlier this year that I wanted a certain amount of money in April. I didn’t get that amount of money, but I got the business idea that’s going to draw it to me. It took me a little bit of reflection to realize that, but I think shifting perspective about what action we need to take is a huge part of the manifestation process. (And last night I dreamt that I won a big tournament and the lottery so something must be coming!)
Great post! I’ve high vibed you and pinged you for the Raise Your Vibes game!

Thanks Kimberly!
I like how you realize that, though the money hasn’t flowed to you yet, you still manifested the inspiration to take certain steps that will flow it to you.
Yay for your dream! That’s a real double whammy–tournament and the lottery!

This is a much saner approach to the Law of Attraction. It works if you do!

Hey Richard,
I personally prefer inspired action. With the inspiration coming first.

Recently a Canadian couple were hacked to death in Africa. I was wondering how acts of violence tie in with the law of attraction. Hope it dosent seem like a stupid question but how does out concepts of evil tie in with the LOA?

Chris,
Everything that happens in anyone’s life is a vibrational match to the thoughts they hold.
Everyone chooses their own death–some choose very dramatic deaths to be sure, and oftentimes these more dramatic deaths are meant to make a statement, to draw attention to something.
On the other hand, some souls are just dramatic for dramatic’s sake.
When you get over your fear of your own death, you’ll no longer assume that a violent passing could equate to evil.
