Keeping Your Precious Things Precious

What do you do when you have a new idea? A brand-new, exciting, precious, idea? Do you immediately run it by others to get their opinion? Do you seek out someone with more knowledge and experience than you for advice?

If you’re like most people, you’ve been taught that authority and wisdom rests outside of you—in books, or in another’s experience, or the simple fact that someone has been knocking around a few years longer than you have.

But, here’s what I’ve learned: We all have access to all the guidance we need just by tuning into our natural connection with Source. In fact, we all come fully equipped with a direct line to Source.

If you’re a student of the Law of Attraction, then you understand that what you believe is what you draw into your life, because like attracts like.

That’s the Law of Attraction in its most literal sense. But take it a step further and you can see that the natural outcome of the LOA is that we all, each and every one of us, create our own reality.

Because if the LOA delivers to you whatever you believe to be true, then it delivers the same to everyone else—what they believe to be true.

And, that means that what is true for one person does not have to be true for another. Ever.

Take my experience as a freelance commercial writer for example.

When I started out, I had one freshly minted General Liberal Arts degree. But, what I did not have was an English, Journalism, or Marketing degree. I also had no previous experience in the marketing industry, nor any contacts in the marketing industry. In fact, I hadn’t punched a timecard in any corporate job, ever.

Some combination of which is usually considered mandatory if you want to work as a copywriter (but I didn’t know this).

Oh, and one more thing, I lived 150 miles from the city I wanted to work in.

I knew I could write, and I knew I was a quick study, so I figured who wouldn’t hire me?

So, I made a few calls to various marketing companies. And guess what, I got my first freelance gig on the second day of calling. And those same folks later hired me over, and over again, for many more jobs.

As preparation, I had looked at several books about copywriting and marketing. But I had intentionally chosen not to consult any experts or mentor types. I knew I didn’t want to.

And so, I went into that venture extremely naïve about how things usually work in freelance copywriting. But that naiveté worked for me.

I believed it was possible to break into that field just because I had the right skills, and so it was.

But those experts, had I bothered to look them up, likely would have told me how difficult, how unprecedented, it would be to break into the biz with my lack of proper credentials and experience.

And, had I taken in those messages would I have still been thinking “who wouldn’t hire me” as I made those first calls? Would I have picked up my first gig on the second day?

You never can say for sure, but I strongly doubt it.

I hadn’t started officially studying the LOA at that point, but what I intuitively understood was that, as creators of our own realties, what is true for me may not be true for you, and vice versa. And, I knew that it was in my best interest to stay away from people who were likely to tell me I couldn’t do what I had set out to do.

I knew to keep my precious things precious.

And here’s something else, a belief that I clearly was operating from though I wasn’t yet conscious of it: We all are capable of being our own authority.

In fact, there is no authority higher than you and your Source. None, nada, zip. There are no experts on any subject who can know more about what will work for you, than you and Source.

If you listen to it, your Source will tell you everything you need to know about accomplishing what you want to accomplish. And yes, sometimes talking to another human about it can be a productive thing to do. Just let Source be your guide as to when this is ideal.

    Cardin,

Great post! You are so right about us already being in line with our source. We have been taught by society to look for approval from others, when it all actuality, the way that we FEEL will always tell us if we are on the right path or not.

Thanks for sharing this post, and your personal story, Cardin. Good stuff! :)

    Thanks Aaron!

It was a fun story to share. I hope the humor of me thinking “who wouldn’t hire me” comes across.

    Ev,

I’m going to take a guess and say that you somehow got confused between holding a carnival and submitting to them. I’ll email you about the carnival stuff. I might have some resources that will help.
