Simply Successful Secrets. I’m It!

Karen Lynch at LivethePower has issued me a challenge—she’s tagged me for the Simply Successful Secrets experiment (get the details here), which was originated recently by Aaron Potts at Todayisthatday.

The challenge is to list the top 5-10 things you do everyday to create success.

So, this got me thinking and I realized that the things I do (or make an effort to do) each day are less about taking specific actions to meet my goals but more about creating the conditions into which the success I desire will flow.

It’s a horse-before-the-cart thing really. It’s not about denying the importance, and enjoyableness, of taking action; it’s more about putting action into perspective. I believe that the vast majority of the “work” of bringing what we want into our lives occurs before we actually start performing any action relative to it.

Taking into account the Law of Attraction and the magnetic nature of our universe, all that I desire, including the inspiration to complete any necessary tasks, is offered to me by the universe. My real work, as I see it, is to get myself aligned with those things that I desire, so that I can let the offering flow into my world.

Accordingly, I don’t do typical time management, scheduling, goal planning, etc. I have in the past, but I found that it added a lot of unnecessary stress to my life (the opposite of what it’s supposed to do right?) because I was often trying to force myself to do things that I wasn’t in alignment with at that moment. Interestingly, what I do now, as described above, actually helps me to be much more productive.

So, with all that in mind, here are my strategies—I’m not sure if these are the kinds of things that the lovely Aaron Potts had in mind, but here are my top six:

Morning Reflection—I like to treat myself to a very unstructured wake-up segue each morning. I’ll sit quietly, sipping some fresh water with a bit of lime squeezed in, maybe stretch a bit, maybe look out at the mountains nearby, maybe close my eyes and do an “inner scan”. I pretty much let myself do just as I like, for as long as I like (which usually isn’t that long actually). This feels very luxurious to me, to allow myself that kind of freedom, and as such it generally gets me into a pretty refreshed, joyful, state. When I’m finished, I just sort of pop-up automatically and get started with my day.

Body Consciousness—Since my body is the vehicle through which everything I do flows, I like to make sure it’s happy and sound. And to do that I need to listen to it. The Morning Reflection is a great way to start each day from a body-connected place. Eating mindfully is another fantastic way to stay connected. I also like to give my body plenty of water, rest, relaxation, sunshine, and movement (all things that it asks for on a regular basis).

Intentions Big and Small—One of the most powerful techniques I’ve found in terms of creating the life I want (and that’s my definition of success by the way) is to stay focused on both my broad intentions (overall well being, prosperity, health, etc.) and my “momentary” intentions (safe car ride, good night’s rest, etc.).

I like to reflect on my broad intentions at lest once per day, usually at the start of it, and then on my momentary intentions throughout the day. The Segment Intending process, by Abraham-Hicks is great for this: briefly, in this process, you divide your day into several segments—getting dressed could be a segment, or preparing dinner, for example. As you enter each segment you briefly take a moment to acknowledge to yourself what you truly desire in this particular segment.

I think the real beauty of Segment Intending is that it gets you to slow down and start thinking about what you really want in all areas of your life. And then, of course, once you begin thinking about everything you want, you are then in a position to begin attracting, via the Law of Attraction, everything you want. How cool is that?

Ask, Don’t Plan—This is one of my strategies that will probably have a lot of people going “wha?” But please bear with me. This actually goes hand in hand with intentions. I find that my work is much less taxing, and more enjoyable if, when I’ve got something I’ve decided I want, or need, to do, I simply put it out there, that I want to do it—and then spend my energy lining up my thoughts and beliefs with whatever it is.

When I’m aligned, I’ll begin to feel really inspired and enthusiastic about performing the task. At that point I know it’s time to move forward—and as a bonus, the work I do, feels less like work and more like inspired play (which is huge bonus when it’s something I don’t like very much, like fussing with CSS).

One Thing at a Time—Multitasking, schmultitasking I say! We’ve all heard it before, that our greatest creative power is in the NOW. I take this to mean that it is so much easier to manifest what we want when we are operating from a clear, focused perspective. Just doing one thing at a time, and one thing only, helps with that. And, like everything else I’ve mentioned here, it makes it surprisingly easier to actually accomplish more because the one thing I’m focusing on gets done easier and faster.

Tuning In—I believe that feelings are the soul’s way of communicating how aligned with our True Selves/Soul/Inner Being (whichever term you prefer) we are. So, when I’m feeling those sure signs of misalignment—grumpiness, anxiety, self doubt, I like to take a step back from what I’m doing and readjust myself. Because I know that the negative thoughts that are driving those feelings will only attract more of the same. I like to nip it in the bud so to speak—less “mess”, i.e. unwanted manifestations, to clean up later.
