Ativan - An Anxiety Medication

For many people who suffer with depression, it is often the case that they do this in silence but there are many professionals out there, ready and willing to assist. There are now a number of depression medications on the market which doctors can prescribe to help with the condition. Today after many years of research and study, depression can be beaten but this does need an early diagnosis for this but unfortunately for some people the cost might not make it possible. Two main depression treatments stand out from the rest and are now used in many cases of depression providing an insight to the sufferer of the condition they have and they are interpersonal and cognitive behavioral therapy. Ativan is used to treat anxiety disorders.

The road to recovery can actually be swift with many patients often in less than twenty weeks so the treatment is very successful. The diagnosis is all important and must be obtained from a doctor regarded highly in this field as the correct assessment as to the type of depression causing the problem, is paramount in a successful treatment. Owing to the large number of depression medications currently available, it would be easy to give the wrong one and make the condition worse. The importance of this condition cannot be underestimated and is highlighted in the large number of medications now available to help with depressive conditions.

The more popular ones are those that are of the selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors then there are the tricyclics while the other popular variant is the monoamine oxidase inhibitor. Side effects are the real problem and can be worse than the condition they are treating this is why the tricyclics are not used as much today. Strangely, despite these side effects, the doctor may believe the patient will be better off taking a mixture of these drugs to help the condition. In these circumstances it may be necessary for the doctor to prescribe two or more drugs to help an individual patient.

Doctors frequently adjust the amount of medication they give their patient depending on the circumstances. While it may be normal and expected for doctors to try this mix and matching, the patients are warned against playing with their depression medication dosages. A warning to all depression sufferers though is to not confuse anti-anxiety or sedative medication as a treatment. Even though these anti-anxiety drugs are often prescribed, they don’t actually help cure someone’s depression illness.

Often confused as part of the depression medication, their real purpose is merely to reduce the stress levels of the patient while he continues to take the other drugs. .There are actually some common side-effects, usually coming from the tricyclic variety. Not everyone is affected in the same way and many are quite happy to put up with them and this is not normally a problem unless it affects the person’s ability to function normally. A doctor would always recommend that the patient contact them immediately a situation like this occurs so another drug can be given that does not cause any side-effects.
